The masses of people travelling on this line are packed into the train coaches. The carriages get so full that people hang out of the windows and doors or stand in between the coaches. This of course is a dangerous activity but cannot be helped as there is simply not enough space during the daily rush hours. After an already long day at work in town the commuters have to endure a last travel to their homes. The environment is untidy, dark and there is no space to move around. It gets hot in the train, making it almost impossible to breathe, yet the mood is light and people enjoy conversation, singing and perhaps a packet of Nik Naks or Spookies.

","It is 17:35 and one of the trains to Khayelitsha departs from Cape Town's train station.
